La saga du trône de fer que vous connaissez sûrement déjà tous grâce à l'adaptation en série (Game of Thrones) raconte l'histoire d'une multitude de personnages vivants sur le continent de Westeros. Les deux principales intrigues les liants sont d'une part la division de ce continent entre le Nord et le Sud par un mur protégeant le Sud des monstres qui vivent au Nord et d'autre par la mort de la main du roi (soit son premier conseiller du roi) qui va créer des intrigues entre les différents seigneurs des sept royaumes.
L'ambiance est très féodal et moyenâgeuse mais c'est hyper bien, tous les personnages sont intéressants et là où tout le monde à son petit préféré, je n'arrive toujours pas à faire mon choix. Je pense que je serais plutôt un Stark, seigneurs du Nord, dernières terres avant le mur parce que j'aime leur force et puis ils ont tous un loup et ça c'est plutôt cool.
Si j'ai choisi cette histoire c'est tout simplement parce qu'elle est pleine de rebondissements, les livres font plus de 1000 pages chacun mais on n'a pas le temps de s'ennuyer. C'est avant tout une histoire de pouvoir et de son incidence sur les hommes, qu'il les ronge ou qu'il leur donne un sentiment de bravoure enfoui. Ce qui j'ai aussi beaucoup apprécié c'est le fait que la dynamique entre les personnages soit beaucoup plus complexe qu'une simple opposition manichéenne, les gentils contre les méchants : les personnages sont avant tout humains et même si on en déteste certains au début, on se surprend à les comprendre parce qu'ils ont tous une certaines forme de fragilité (sauf Joffrey qui est juste une sombre merde !).
Je n'ai pas encore lu le quatrième pour l'instant et le cinquième n'est pas encore traduit en français donc je pense que ça va être ma bonne excuse pour le lire en anglais !
Thinking about this one I realized that the books' heroes are never my favorite characters. So that's why I've chosen a massive series of books with a lot of characters ! The song of Ice and Fire that you know for sure thanks to the tv series Game of Thrones deals with all these characters that live in Westeros. The two main plots linking them all are on the one hand the division between the North and the South of the Country by a wall built by the South to protect people agains the monsters that live in the North and on the other hand, the death of the Hand of the king (first counselor of the king) which is going to create rivalry between the lords of the seven kingdoms.
The atmosphere is really feudal and medieval and all the characters are interesting and where everybody has a favorite one, I still can't make a decision. I think I would be a Stark, lords of the North, last land before the wall because I like their strength and they all have a wolf which is quite cool.
If I have chosen this story it's because it's action packed and even if the books are over 1000 pages, you don't have time to get bored. Before all, it about power and the impact it can have on men, destroying them or revealing their bravery. I also really liked the fact that the links between the characters are way more complex than just a Manichaean opposition, good versus evil : they are all human and even if you really hate some of them at the beginning of the book, you will be surprised to understand the way they act at one point and discover a certain fragility in them (but for Joffrey who is just a little shit !).
I haven't read the fourth one yet and as the fifth one hasn't been translated into French yet, there's a good chance that I'll read it in English !
