Paper Town - John Green

John Green est un auteur que j'aime bien. Malheureusement, et pas de bol pour moi, j'ai commencé par lire ces deux meilleurs livres. J'avais quand même acheté Paper Town parce qu'on en parlait pas non plus comme d'une bouse et je trouvais ça rigolo de lire ça au moment de Noël, où je rentrais chez moi quand le livre parle d'une fille qui veut à tout pris s'enfuir de chez elle.

John Green is an author that I like. Unfortunately for me I've discovered him through his two best books. I bought Paper Town  because it wasn't reviewed as a bad one and I thought it was funny to read that around Christmas when I was going back home while the book deals with a girl that wants to run away from her life.

Je n'en attendais pas beaucoup, mais ça ne m'a pas empêché d'être un peu déçu. J'avoue avoir espérer la bonne surprise et malheureusement, elle n'est pas venu.
Les personnages sont caricaturaux et pas vraiment sympathiques. J'ai cherché pendant un bon moment ce qui pouvais aveugler à ce point ce p'tit gars chez cette nana qui veut passer pour une meuf cool et "trop différente tu vois" mais au final elle est juste comme les autres voir pire. L'adolescence n'est un moment facile pour personne alors qu'elle arrête un peu son cinéma.

Par contre, il y a 2 aspects du bouquin que j'ai bien aimé mais qui malheureusement ne sont pas assez développés et c'est bien dommage.
D'abord, c'est le sentiment de vouloir changer les gens pour qu'ils nous ressemblent. Alors que c'est tellement mieux qu'on ne soit pas tous les mêmes et qu'on puisse avoir des amis qui sont différents de nous. Et puis aussi l'idée de courir après quelque chose pendant trop longtemps, tellement longtemps qu'on ne se souvient plus très bien après quoi on court, alors on commence à le fantasmer. Et au final, quand on le retrouve, on est un peu déçu.
Evidemment, la plume de l'auteur rattrape aussi un peu. John Green a beaucoup d'humour et arrive encore à se souvenir de petit truc qu'on vit quand on est jeune et qui nous marque.
Cependant le bouquin ne fera jamais parti de mes préférés, c'est dommage.


I wasn't expecting much from it but it didn't prevent me from being disappointed. To be honest I was expecting a good surprise but it didn't come.
The characters are stereotypical and not really sympathetic. I have really tried to understand for a really long time how this little dude could be blinded by this girl who tries way too hard to be and feels like she is "sooooooo different" but is, in the end, even worse than the people she criticizes. Being a teenager is not easy for anyone so stop being a fucking drama queen for crying out loud !

However, they are 2 ideas in the book that I liked but unfortunately they weren't developed enough for my satisfaction which is a shame.
First, this feeling we can't prevent to sometimes wish we could make people a bit more like ourselves. Even though it is so much better that everyone in different in this crazy world and that we can have friend that we can learn from. And also the fact that sometimes we run after people (not literally I mean) for so long that we kind of forgot what we are looking for and start living in the fantasy. And in the end, when we find them we're a bit disappointed by reality.
Of course John Green's writing style is always the same, simple but his sense for the details that we live when we're young and we still have a nostalgic feeling for now.
However, even with all this, this one is definitely not one of my favorites.
